Nowadays almost every bank is charging for not maintaining minimum balance in the accounts. Public sector banks are charging less when compared with private sector banks. If the account holder doesn’t maintain any balance then the banks will convert those accounts into a negative balance.
So whenever we want to deposit some money into that account then we have to clear the negative balance (or) we can request the bank’s branch manager waive or refund pf your minimum balance charges, for that we need to write a request letter.

When bank accounts converted to negative balance
Every bank has some minimum balance rules, they follow these rules to reduce the number of dormant accounts.
Sometimes due to the ignorance of the account holders, they don’t maintain a minimum balance, in that case, the bank accounts will be charged for not maintaining a minimum balance.
Do I need to maintain minimum balance in salary account
Most salary accounts come with a Zero balance t facility, so until you are in that job and salary is crediting in that account, till then you don’t need to maintain the minimum balance. But whenever you leave your job then after 3-6 months that account will be converted into a regular savings account.
This time period varies from bank to bank. And before not maintaining minimum balance make sure that your account has Zero balance facility or not.
What if my bank doesn’t waive my minimum balance charges
As per RBI/2014-15/308, DBR.Dir.BC.No.47/13.03.00/2014-15 banks should not covert savings accounts to the negative balance.
Still, if your bank is not waiving off your minimum balance charges even after requesting them then contact the banking ombudsman.
